Missing Monterey Car Week 2021

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I missed Monterey Car week entirely this year. Normally I go out there for a few days, take in a few formal events and reconnect with friends and customers. As the whole week was cancelled last year due to COVID, missing it this year made it even more of a downer.  One of my traditions during car week is stopping by the Madonna Inn Copper Cafe either on the way up or way down. Special Poster Finds are Satisfying

This post actually has nothing to do with car posters, but the ethos of finding an obscure poster is always satisfying to me.  A good friend of my family enlisted my help to specifically find Russian language movie posters directed by her Grandfather in the former Soviet Union. He was active in the 1950s-1970s and while she had managed to find a couple of posters, they weren't in the Russian language It took me a little while and some sleuthing and research, but through one of my contacts I managed to track down two that were available and purchased them...

This article I wrote for Petrolicious is a trip down memory lane because I wrote it all the way back in 2014. Thinking about this article now vis a vis the posters I've been attracted to, Lohrer is credit on quite a number of my favorites including the "Poodle," "Helmet," and "Golf Clubs," the last of which is part of the sought after "lifestyle" series of Porsche showroom posters. While Erich Strenger is often credited with giving Porsche its graphic identity, I do believe Hans Lohrer was a key man and overlooked today.

(Almost) Anything Can be Fixed...

Sometimes you get offered a poster that is in less than prime or mint condition...but you sort of have to purchase it because where/when are you going to find another one? This was the case for me with this 1967 Porsche "Superb Sporting" showroom poster.  When I purchased it, I knew it was intact, but that it had multiple areas of cracking and color loss from improper storage. In fact, the poster looked like it had been crumpled up at some point. That being said, it was a rare and cool poster, illustrating the dual nature of the Porsche 911....
